My techno hero Brian got me using Skype. It's a free computer to computer telephone service. You just need to download the program (Win, Apple, Linux & Pocket PC), plug in a mic and speakers, get you're friends to do it too and start talking long distance for free. I was quite suprised at how good the quality of the audio was. You can also conference call with up to 4 people. They also have a service to call from a computer to a phone for cheap (pennies) or you can sign up for a phone number and people can call your computer from a phone. I havn't tried it a lot yet, but so far it seems pretty good.
