the passion continues...
I remember as a child getting up waaaaay too early on 2 different days during the Stampede. The first was parade day the other was Kid's day. Traditionally the Wednesday of the Stampede has been Kid's day. We would get up early and head over to Westbrook Mall to catch the Stampede Express bus. When we got down to Stampede park we would get a pancake with bacon and one of those little milk cartons, but they had juice in them instead of milk. That always amazed me, I don't think you could buy those cartons at a store anywhere, but every year at the Stampede they had those cartons. We would then watch the kid's grandstand show. The best part was always Buckshot and Benny the Bear.
The rest of the day would be spent roaming the grounds and riding the rides. I never understood why we always had to stand in that long line to look through the Dream Home, but now I know. Dad would always buy the lottery tickets for the Dream Home , Pot-O-Gold and the vehicles, but often it wasn't his name he was putting on the tickets. I don't recall if any of those people ever won a new car, but I bet they would have been suprised if they ever did.
It was always a bonus to see a gunfight in Wedickville while we were eating a smokie.
Kid's, make sure you make it to the Stampede tomorrow.

Hey I never knew that about your Dad! That's very cool. I love hearing all your Stampede memories (here and in person!) this week. Next year, next year. ha! xoxo
