Bulldogs, Lions & Rams ... Oh my.

This has been a great weekend to get me prepared for the 92nd annual Grey Cup.

If you are an avid reader of callmecordelia, you will already know my nephew won the city championships in bantam football last week. Well, on Saturday, The Bulldogs drove down to Lethbridge, to face the Cardston Cougars in the Provincial Semi-Final. The Bulldogs easily defeated the Cougars 41-2. Cardston's two points were from a safety that the Bulldogs conceded after intercepting a pass on their own 8 yardline. Go Bulldogs!! Good luck against the Sherwoodpark Rams in the Provincial Final.

Speaking of Rams, my former High School, the Central Memorial Rams played in the city finals on Friday. Both the Sr. and Jr. teams made it to the cities. As of yet the scores have not been updated on the web, so I don't know who won.

Finally, today I went to the CFL Western Final. What a great game! It went into overtime with the BC Lions beating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 27-25. I had a hard time deciding who to cheer for ( since my beloved Stampeders have been out of a play-off spot since July). I tried to decide which team had more former Stampeders, but both head coaches are former Stampeders, both teams have quarterbacks that are former Stampeders and both teams have key recievers that are former Stampeders. So I decided to just cheer for a good game, which it was.

I don't understand the logic of BC Place officials though. The CFL has two domed stadiums, Toronto and here in Vancouver. So, when you go to a game in either stadium you do not think you need to dress according to the weather conditions. BC Place was expecting the biggest crowd it has had since (probably) Expo 86, so what do they do? Instead of accomodating a crowd over twice the size of a normal Lions game, they close one of the two main entrances to the stadium. Blocking it off to put in "will call" booths. Instead of the normal five minute line-up to get into the stadium, it took 30 minutes in the pouring rain to get in. I got in the building during O Canada, but had to watch the first touchdown from a TV in the concourse. There were alot more people behind me who probably missed most of the first quarter. After I finally got in the Lions and Roughriders more than compensated for the inconvienience BC Place caused.
