are monkeys on longisland?

OK the New York Islanders have done some weird stuff. First of all the fire their GM after 1 month and replace him with their back-up Goalie. They felt that someone who can ride the bench can also ride the office chair. The GM didn't even have time to order his business cards never mind make changes to the team.

So goalie Garth Snow is now the GM. If you were Garth wouldn't you want to show the world that you are fit to do the job that no one thinks you can do? Well today he made us all a believer with the longest contract ever in the NHL. He signed Goalie Rick DiPietro to a 15 year contract. Yes! 15 YEARS!

Let's put that into perspective:
  • In 15 years Ronan will be graduating from High School and
  • It will be the 10th Anniversary of the Vancouver Winter Olympics
15 Years ago
  • Amy Fisher shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco,
  • Dan Quayle misspelled Potato,
  • The Blue Jays won the World Series,
  • The Charlottetown Accord was defeated in a national referendum and
  • Czechoslovakia became 2 countries.

I guess DiPietro will be around longer than Snow

I heard from my "hockey expert" (guys I sit around after hockey and talk about stuff with) that it was really the owners work that made this contract happen. I was even told that Bob Mackenzie has an article on the subject.
