WARNING! Rant Below

Yesterday Mr. Paul Martin told the people of Canada that he wants to get to the bottom of the Liberal's money wasting. Well, it is ironic that on the very same day some wasted taxpayer money arrived in my mail. (The envelope and the contents can be seen below, Click on the picture to enlarge it) I recieved a letter from Stephen Owen, M.P. Vancouver - Quadra. Funny thing is, I don't live in Vancouver - Quadra! This letter was addressed to us personally, not just bulk mail like my Member of Parliament sends.

This is my first concern! This letter did not have a stamp, therefore it was paid for by the citizens of Canada not the Liberal Party. I think it is important that citizens can write the House of Commons and MPs can write their constituents postage-free. But this letter did not contain contents that were informative, it was simply a look at how the Liberals have improved Canada's finances since 1993. I'll deal with the content in the next paragraph, let's get back to the envelope. The letter was addressed to us personally. I have never, and will never sign up to a Liberal Party mailing list; I did not give them my address. Mr Owen either 1) Spent Liberal Party money to get my address. 2) Spent taxpayer's money to get my address (which isn't a stretch since we paid the postage). Or 3) the most insidious possibility - he used another department of the government to gain my address such as Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.

The content of the letter is my second concern. My Member of Parliament (Bill Siksay) is quite good at keeping his constituents informed of what he is doing and when he will be in the riding. Although I did not vote for Mr. Siksay, I believe he does a great job of keeping us informed on what he's doing on "The Hill." The letter I recieved from Mr. Owen was not an informative one. It did not contain any of the typical content of an MP to his/her constituents. This was a letter informing me of how the Liberal government has been fiscally responsible since 1993. WHAT! How many letters were sent out at taxpayers expense to serve as Liberal Party propaganda?

I'm sure when you return to this website for the next post I'll be back to my normal quick read. Sorry about the length, but it is amazing that the Government can talk about eliminating wasteful spending when they can use taxpayer money to "inform" me about how good the Liberal government is.

For those of you who don't come to this blog for the generous reading material, here is the typical Brain Flatulence Blog:
A Liberal MP (not my MP) used taxpayers money to send me Liberal propaganda - so much for getting rid of wasteful spending Mr. P.M..

I have never thought of you as a scary guy, but you have definitely scared everyone off with your rant! Actually, I share your frustration. If the Liberals are successful in holding off the election, you know that they are going to be spending piles of government money in the next few months surreptitiously campaigning anyway. I say, let's just have the election now and get back to business.
